Talk. Literally!

Talk. Literally!

Purpose: The whole idea behind this activity is to give your child a chance to share their thoughts and feelings in their own words. It’s not just about chatting - it’s about truly connecting. When you ask open-ended questions and give them your full attention, you get a little glimpse into their world - what they love, what makes them proud, and how they see things.

You’ll also be showing them that what they think and feel really matters. Plus, these conversations can help build their confidence and encourage them to express themselves more. It’s a simple but powerful way to strengthen your bond and make them feel supported, all while having fun talking together.

Materials Required:

  • None

Instructions:

1. Find a relaxed time in your day:

  • Whether it’s snack time, a car ride, while you’re waiting in a queue, or right before bed time - just find 5-10 minutes to share a light-hearted conversation with your child.

2. Start with an open-ended theme: Some of my favourites are...

  • What would you do if you had unlimited money?

  • If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

  • What’s something new you’d love to learn?

  • And the list goes on!

3. Let them lead:

  • Let your child lead the conversation. Ask follow-up questions like, “Why is that?” or “Tell me more!” to keep it going.

4. Enjoy the moment!

  • This is your chance to hear their unique thoughts and ideas. Wrap it up with a hug, a laugh, or whatever feels right for you and your child.
