Get ready for the 2025 launch! The Brings Joy Learning Second Grade curriculum is out of the writing stage and with our talented illustrators. It's almost time for your child to embark on an exciting learning adventure!

The Unit 1 of our interdisciplinary unit-style learning Second grade curriculum, ‘Discovering Connections’  invites children to reflect, explore, and grow through a richly interdisciplinary journey grounded in real-world meaning.

This introductory Unit of our Second Grade set is divided into three sections:

1. Self and Surroundings - In this section, learners continue to explore their own identities through math, writing, and storytelling. They reflect on personal traits, family traditions, and ancestry while developing number sense, financial literacy, and confidence. Through meaningful activities like journaling, goal-setting, and creative expression, children make powerful connections between who they are and how they grow.

2. A Journey Around the Globe - Children embark on a cross-cultural adventure, learning about global festivals, folktales, and geometric art forms from around the world. From Diwali and Hanukkah to ancient Egyptian mosaics, students uncover the beauty of diverse traditions while building skills in geometry, literacy, and storytelling. This section fosters empathy, cultural appreciation, and a sense of global belonging.

3. Eco-Explorers: Uncover Nature's Mysteries - This section guides learners into the natural world, where they become young scientists and stewards of the Earth. Through the lens of a magical Secret Garden, children explore ecosystems, plant and animal adaptations, and sustainability practices. With lessons on conservation, recycling, and energy, this unit empowers students to make thoughtful choices for a healthier planet.

One of the highlights of Unit 1 is its seamless integration of math, literacy, science, social studies, and the arts - all anchored in themes of identity, culture, and environmental responsibility. Through this real-world lens, children gain a deeper understanding of their role in their communities and in shaping the world around them.

This unit-style curriculum is ideal for busy parents to be utilized as a supplement with as little as 10–15 minutes of quality time per day. It is also suitable as a standalone for my fellow homeschooling parents who are in search of an interdisciplinary curriculum to add to their shelf.
