1st Grade Unit 1: Discovering Myself and The Universe

The Unit 1 of our interdisciplinary unit-style learning First grade curriculum, ‘Discovering Myself and the Universe’ is a gateway to a world of exploration and wonder for first-grade learners. It’s designed to ignite your child’s curiosity and foster holistic development through an interdisciplinary approach.

This introductory Unit of our First Grade set is divided into three sections:

1. Uncovering Me – In this section, young learners delve deep into their emotions, strengths,  and personal goals, cultivating emotional intelligence and self-awareness. Through fun and engaging activities like public speaking and writing, they learn to express themselves confidently and empathetically.
2. Community and Culture – Here, children explore the roles of community helpers, they learn about local traditions, the importance of food chain, and even identify their place in the ecosystem. They learn about cooperation and action, a key concept in helping them build social-economic awareness and a sense of responsibility towards their communities and the environment.
3. Our Place in the World – This section dives into larger concepts of human impact, geography, culture, and conservation. Through hands-on projects and virtual field trips, children become critical thinkers, analyzing the world around them and understanding the implications of their actions on a global scale.

One of the highlights of Unit 1 is its focus on real-world relevance. By exploring topics such as environment, geography, and human impact, your child will gain a deeper understanding of their place in the world and the role they can play in shaping its future.
