Ghost!
Purpose: To develop vocabulary, enhance critical thinking, introduce interdisciplinary knowledge, and foster creativity.
Materials Required:
- None
Instructions:
1. Choose a Theme:
- Before starting, select a theme to add an educational twist. For example, the theme could be "Geography," "Animals," or "Science Terms." You can pick a different theme for each round or stick to one for the whole game.
2. Starting the Theme:
- One player begins by saying a letter of a word related to the chosen theme. For example, if the theme is "Geography," the first player might say "C" (thinking of "Canada").
3. Building the Word:
- The next player adds a letter, ensuring it can form part of a word related to the theme. For instance, the second player could add "A," still keeping "Canada" in mind.
4. Don't Hesitate to Challenge:
- If one player suspects that the word being built is not valid or doesn’t fit the theme, they can challenge the other. The challenged player must name the word they’re thinking of. If they can't, they lose that round.
5. Avoid Completing the Word:
- The objective is to avoid being the player who finishes a valid word. So, if the letters spell out "CANADA," the player who adds the last "A" loses the round.
6. Sneak in Some Facts:
- After each round, players can take turns sharing a fun fact related to the word. For example, if the word was "Canada," a player might say, "Did you know Canada has the longest coastline in the world?"
7. Keep Going:
- Keep track of who finishes words. The player who finishes three words becomes the "Ghost," ending the game. The "Ghost" can then ask a final trivia question from the chosen theme to "redeem" themselves.
Example:
- Theme: Animals
- Player 1: "C" (thinking of "Cheetah")
- Player 2: "H"
- Player 1: "E"
- Player 2: "E"
- Player 1: "T"
- Player 2: "A" (completes "Cheetah" — Player 2 loses the round)
Why is the game called 'Ghost'?
The game is called "Ghost" because the player who loses three rounds is referred to as the "ghost." This player is out of the active game but can "haunt" the other players by watching or trying to influence their choices!
